Today, the news page GGL.com released an interview with Matthieu
Dallon. Matthieu Dallon is the president of Games Services, the main
company behind ESWC. In the interview with GGL, Dallon talks about
plans of expanding ESWC, this means that there will be more events, and
in more games.
Here is a small nippet from the interview:
GGL: Will we see ESWC dropping CS 1.6 next year to switch to Source or something else?
Dallon: I'm not in a position
to answer yet. For ESWC the community's choice will be decisive.
Personally, I think CS 1.6 will still be current next year, if only
because it is so widespread internationally, whether legally, in pirate
versions or LAN bundles. The other factor will be Valve's strategy in
terms of rights to use the game, and I don't have any information on
that.
GGL: Are there any plans for the ESWC to expand into a circuit of tournaments, not WCG's twin brother?
Dallon: Yes, the plan we're
working on for the 2007/2008 season is to stage a series of
international events every two or three months, as well as the national
qualifying events. They will be called "Masters", and they will for
example enable players from countries that do not have national
qualification processes to try their chances for the Grand Final.
